The Affect Factory: Conference Poster (#1 of 2)

Life and work, and their dependence upon one another, are often imagined as increasingly precarious.
At the same time, “creative capital” invests a kind of promise in precarity. The manipulation of affect
is stock in trade for art production, theatrical and performance labor, and now constitutes everyday
anxieties about work and living in the current economy. This conference reconsiders the feminist
critique of the relation of time and work, material and immaterial labor, waged and unwaged emotional labor.
Are we living in the affect factory?

February 10 and 11, 2012

"The Affect Factory" conference from Women & Performance: A Journal of Feminist Theory will take place at The Barney Building on the New York University campus: 34 Stuyvesant between 3rd and 2nd Avenues. There are no travel grants available, but there is no registration fee. Simply register by emailing affectfactory (at) gmail (dot) com. The space is accessible and if you will need assistance, please let us know.

The conference is in concert with the upcoming special issues "Precarity" and "Precarious Situations," from TDR and Women & Performance respectively.

There are currently 7 people working on the conference committee (4 of which are on the editorial board in some capacity) for a total of $0.
